WORK AND WAGES.
MINERS CLAIM AN ADVANCE. (Received 9.55 a.m.) London, January 9. Scottish miners have lodged a claim for 25 per cent, advance in wages. A FIVE-DAY WEEK. (Received 9.40 a.m.) Sydney, January 10. Judging by remarks at the last Eight Hours’ banquet and the debates during the recent session in the Commonwealth and .State Parliaments, show that the suggestion of a five days’ working week is regarded in some circles as a possibility, as it is now suggested to dose on Saturday night. The move outlined ass-.st in a universal trading scheme, thus abolishing night drills, and not interfering with Saturday afternoon pastimes. This is merely a suggestion towards the concrete proposal.
