Rescind Pasha lias handed the Allies a declaration to the effect that the cession of Arianople is impossible IVoin the standpoint of the security of the Dardanelles. Constantinople, January 6. The Turks have consented to abandon Crete on the express condition that no other island is claimed. The conference adjourned for twenty minutes, and the Allies then replied that the declaration did not meet their demands. The new proposal was not of a nature to lead to an agreement, therefore they uonld be obliged to suspend the conference. The Turks protested that the suspension was irregular, and desired to discuss it. They left the palace perturbed and excited. In an interview later they declared that the Allies had suspended the conference, hoping that Adrianople would fall iu the interval. London, January 7. The ‘Chronicle’ says that the suspension of the conference will ingenuously relieve the Balkans of the responsibility of the next step, which must he taken either by Turkey or the Powers. The ‘Daily News’ says that Italy L anxious to retain the islands she if occupying. If so, an international scramble will begin. Austria is opposed to the Allies annexing any of the Aegean Islands. Several newspapers question whether the Powers will he able to agree upon a line of action. Vienna, January 7. The tone in official circles is hardening against Servia in the direction of advocating a big Albania, extending from Mitrovitza to Preveza, which would leave Servia with a trifling rectification of her frontier.
