FROM PETONE. (For Press Association.) Wellington, January G. A sensational disappearance is re ported from Petone. A man named Carter proceeded to lock up his house, which is isolated. Surrounded hy trees, when he heard a man approaching from behind. Seeing Carter, the man holtod, and Carter called to his son, who had just retired. He jumped out of the window and chased the burglar over the fence. Neither have been seen since. No one saw Carter jump through the window, but it is presumed in. must have done so, as some of his clothes were in his room. Carter, who holds a chief engineer’s .certificate, has been absent from home six or seven years.
