The Ounard liner Syria picked up seven boats containing 98 passengers and crew of the French steamer St. Augustin, near Bona. The St. Augustin sprang a leak and sank. STEAMERS IN COLLISION, New York, January 5. The British steamer Indra Kuala collided with and sank the steamer Julia Luchenbach, in Chesapeake Bay. The captain and his wife and 20 sailors of the Julia Luchenabch were drowned. Six sailors clung to the rigging for hours, benumbed with cold, and were finally rescued. A terrific storm paralysed the rescuers’ efforts. (Received 8.0 a.in.) New York, January 5. The Indra Kula rescued six of the crew of the Luckeebach. A DISMASTED VESSEL. Sydney, January 5. The captain of the Thora reports righting a dismasted vessel 300 miles from Capo Farewell; apparently from Newcastle, coal, laden. The vessel met trouble off the New Zealand coast. The Thora signalled, but got no reply. . , „ . (Received 8.0 a.m.) Sydney, January 6 The vessel sighted by the Thora was a large barque with her fore top-gal-lant and main top-gallants gone, as well as signs of other damage. Some of her sails were standing. IN A- CYCLONIC STORM. THE COOK’S LUCK. (Received 8.0 a.m.) Sydney, January 6. The Norwegian ship Gunda, from Marseilles, was towed in badly damaged. . _ . ~ In a cyclonic storm in Jervis Bay the vessel was- thrown on her oeaoa ends. The deck was swept, and the boats smashed. She Bad a narrow, escape from foundering. The cook was twice washed off the ship and on again.
