The connections of Golden Loop were before the stewards to explain the horse’s running on the first day, but the explanation was satisfactory. The Stratford Club has received splendid acceptances for their annual fixture, which opens to-morrow. Should the present spell of fine weather continue, this year’s meeting should be a record one. The track is in splendid order, and the totalisator arrangements compare favourably with the Metropolitan Clubs. The ball will be set rolling with the Tariki Welter, for which event the good field of sixteen have cried content, Allure (9.11) heads the list, This gelding is fast, and was supported by his party the second day at New Plymouth. He failed badly, but should run better to-morrow. A large number will probably line up for the Borough Stakes, and Astor, Tree Lucerne, and Sweet Breeze should make the event interesting. Tile Stratford Cup figures next on the programme, and has drawn eleven acceptors. North East is top weight with 9.0, or 81 bs more than he carried into second place last week. He appears to be held safe by Con the Shaughraun and Muleteer. Should Phroeo carry the confidence of his party the Midhirst Hack would appear to be as good as over. Aruake shaped really well at Taranaki, and can bo depended on to run a great race. Aviatrix has caught it “hot” from Mr. Henrys, for her easy double win, but despite the increased poundage, should keep the opposition busy. An aspirant to the jumping game in Nga'tlraunui will make his appearance in the event. The Maniopoto gelding is a really good jumper, and there is
no doubt about his pace. Bercola is still on the improve, and some good judges are anticipating-that he may reverse positions with his conqueror of last week. Tire horses engaged in the Farmers’ Plate are practically an unknown quantity, Kuropotangi, on Taranaki form, will probably be installed big favourite. The smallest field of the day, seven in number, have paid up for the Flying Handicap. On New Plymouth form in .this event Ascalon must be bandy at the finish. No less than twenty have accepted for the Railway Hack, Grattan showed some pace at New Plymouth the first day, when he won, and was extremely unlucky to lose the second day. Boronia met a good one in Phroso at Taranaki, and under the circumstances ran really well.
