Preaching in All Saints’ Cathedral, Bathurst, Bishop Long said that certain people asked why they could not gamble and why they could not pull down /the standard of life. These people formed themselves into libertyleagues, but liberty to do what? To go to hell. And because other people wanted to he free to work for national ideals of social ethics they were called “killjoys” and “wowsers.” “But,” added his Lordship, “there must be some to stand up and withstand this ridicule, for we might by this means become some shelter for the decencies of life.
