CHINAWCMAN'S DEFENCE.
“BORN IN NEW SOUTH WALES.”
Brisbane, December 18
At the Central Summons Court, the Customs authorities proceeded against Maude Ah Chan, wife of a Chinese at present at Toowoomba, on a complaint that she entered the Commonwealthafter having failed to, pass the dictation test. The defence was that Mrs. Ah Chan was born in New South Wales, and went to China with her father when five years old. The case was adjourned until February 4, to allow of witnesses attending from a distance. Bail was fixed at £IOO, and one surety of £IOO. ‘
