AWARD DECLARED INVALID

(Received 9.45 a.m.) Sydney, December 24. Tlio High Court recently declared invalid the award obtained by the Merchant Service Guild of Australasia, on the ground that there was no dispute extending beyond the limits of one State. The position is acute. The old State award in New South Wales lias expired, the result being that captains and officers in both New South Wales and South Australia are without a legal award covering the conditions of employment. The coastal shipowners in New South Wales recently intimated that they were willing to meet the Guild in con ference. T.he Guild replied agreeing provided ( -the wages', and conditions were dismissed. The shipowners did not reply. (The Child believes it possesses the moral aedive support of the Seaside Union.
