WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Whangamomona County Council was held on Friday last, when there were present Crs A. Meredith (in the chair;,
W. A. McCutchan, W. bacon, b. x>. Robertou, A. it. Cleland, o. biggins, A. Coyne and M. i. Jury. On me motion of Ur McCutchan
seconded by Cr Bacon, it was decided to forwaru to the under Secretary for Public Works the lector draftee
by the engineer with regard to the repair of tne Oh,ura road in the Central Riding. Cr McCutchan moved that the suggestion contained in Mr J. B. Mine s yM.P.’s; letter to Cr Coyne, re tne subsidy oi the PiiBUO loan, oe given effect to, in wnat manner and at what time .the chairman and Cr. Coyne tiiinic ht, the engineer to accompany tne deputation.—Carried. A motion was passed that applications be' called tor the position of dog-tax collector, same to close on ibm proximo, and to be dealt with by the chairman and clerk. On the engineer’s report being read, Cr McCutchan moyed that the engineer be authorised to put the decking of the Prospect road bridge in liana. Seconded by Cr Bacon and carried.
The clerk was instructed to raise the sum of £SOO for the Strathmore township bridge, on account of the bridge loan. ) Tne engineer’s report was then adopted. Correspondence.
A letter was received from the Patea County Council, re native rates, and it was decided to prepare the return asked for by the southern Council.
The Waitomo County Council wrote with reference to a meeting place of Backblocks Associations, and it was agreed that the matter be loft in_tue hands of the Waitomo Council.
Tiie Whakatanae County Council forwarded a circular letter with reference to the cost of administration of grants, and already reported in our columns. It was decided that tne letter be acknowledged, and the Council in question be informed that the Whangaraomona County Council had already done in the past what the Whakatanae Council advocated, and hoped that the change desired would be brought about in the near future. The Ohura County Council brought up the matter of alteration of a certain boundary, and a motion was passed that the chairman lie authorised to affix seal and sign the agreement embodying the same, Or Roberton to assist in the matter.
Mrs Williamson wrote complaining of calves on the Kirai road, and it was decided to reply that the Council had been unable to obtain a ranger, and reminding the writer that she was entitled to use her legal rights should she so desire.
Applications for positions of surfacemen were dealt with, and the following were T. Langdon, Central Riding; J. Keane, Strathmore.
The chairman’s action in appointing Mrs Williams poundkeeper at Huiakama, and in leasing the reserve to her, was confirmed.
The engineer was empowered to have the bridges requiring attention in the Strathmore Riding attended to as opportunity offered.
The Pohokura foreman was authorised to procure up to 3 cwt of wire for the purpose of fencing the reserve in which he lives, providing that he does the work required. It was resolved that the consent of the Land Board be applied for in re the transfer of the Road Reserve required by I). H. Draffit. Instructions were given to tlie engineer to have the culvert at the 4.j----mile peg on the Whangamomona roar reconstructed at a cost of CMS.
Attention of the Noxious Weeds Inspector is to be called to the spread of foxglove in the district, particularly on the section adjoining Shield’s property on the Mangare Road. Accounts amounting to £167 11; 9d were passed for payment.
