Mr Pattison, on taking the chair and rising to speak, was very warmly greeted. Before he accepted the call, he had heard that there were many difficulties to be faced, but these had acted as a challenge to him, a® matters to be overcome. He wished, all past differences to be put aside, and he trusted that with God’s blessing and the co-oper-ation of those who had called iiim to this charge, he would build up a strong ana united church. He did not intend working as a rival to tne other churches, but with them in extending the kingdom of. God, and he hoped their relations would always be most cordial. Having assumed the reins of government of the church, he would Hold them firmly yet lovingly, and he wanted to lie the friend oi all the members and adherents. Mr Pattison by his remarks shelved that lie was possessed of a ' good fund of humour, combined with earnestness and strength of purpose. During the evening a very acceptable musical programme, arranged by Mrs McNeely, was rendered, songs being given by Misses Bayly, Sangstsr, M. Mackay, and a violin solo by Mirr, Rogers. At the close supper was handed round by the ladies, and the new minister and bis wife had an opportunity of meeting those present.
