(Received 12.35 p.m.) London, December 13. Mr. G. A. France, Liberal member, moved to abolish tithes and leave the Welsh Church all the other funds. Mr. Gladstone supported it, as a compromise to settle the strike. Mr. McKenna, Home Secretary, said he did not believe the Opposition would accept it in that spirit. If the amendment were accepted he would drop the Bill. The Right Hon. Alfred Lyttelton (Unionist) frankly admitted that the amendment was not acceptable.
