EASTBOURNE TRAGEDY.
EVIDENCE AT THE TRIAL,

At the trial of the sculptor, Williams, Florence Seymour recanted her statements! that her lover was wearing a Trilby hat. The incidents on the, beach occurred oh the Bth, not the 9th, of the month. She made statements because the detectives threatened to accuse her of the murder.
A London cablegram of the 22nd October stated that John Williams was remanded at Eastbourne on a charge of murdering Inspector Walls at the Countess Sztaray’s house a fortnight ago, when the inspector was summoned to the house to .arrest burglars. The evidence is based on the discovery of a bat alleged to belong to Williams; also a revolver he was seen to bury on the beach, and also bis flight to London. The chief witness, Florence Seymour, with whom Williams co-habited, testified that on the night of the tragedy she carried a parcel containing a rope wit ha hook. V\ illiams left her for half an hour, and when h ©returned he was hatless. He bade her throw the parcel on the beach.
