WHANGAMOMONA NOTES.

(From Our Own Cpi respondent.) Mr. H. Twissj Crown Lands Ranger, is paying a visit to the district at present on Land Board business. Mr. Geo. Turnbull, of the Roads Department, has left here to spend his annual leave among friends on the West Coast of the South Island. There are indications that Whanga will be very quiet through Christmas week. The greater number of the residents are going away holiday-making. Mr. J. Eothery, of the Whanga Hotel, purposes adding another suite of rooms on the east side of the building, in anticipation of summer business.

A new tram section is being opened from the Vera Hoad to Marco Road, so there will he trams .after this from both ends, thus saving time and reducing the number of crossings. The hot summer weather has come at last, the past week or so being particularly dry and hot. Motor cars and cycles can get here from Stratford without much trouble now, and farmers’ gigs and buggies are being put into commission^igain. The cricket match Whanga v. Po hokura, on Sunday last, resulted in rather an easy win for Whanga by about an innings. A match is being arranged for an early date between teams from Messrs. Court and Cottier’s employees and the Whanga district. The progressive euchre parties continue to attract good attendances. Last week the first prize was annexed by Miss B. Dean, after a keen play-off game with three other ladies who had gained equal points in the games proP° r - , . , Mr. E. Mowatt, of Kohuratahi, has returned from Stratford Hospital, much recovered in health. Ho has entered for the Eltham and Whanga Chops, so it is to be hoped that he will bo quite himself again in time to try his luck at the big events. The farmers are busy getting their wool away to market to secure a share of the high prices ruling just now. One consignment on account of a local farmer realised per lb on Monday. Lambs, too, are selling at high figures this season, the nearness of the railway helping the farmers to obtain outside prices for their stock.

Mr. and Mrs. T. Sutherland arc leaving Whanga next week. Mr. Sutherland purposes opening a business in the Auckland district. Mrs. Sutherland is going on a holiday , trip to Tasmania for three months. Both have lieon popular here during the last two years since Mr. Sutherland opened his business here, and they will be much missed in Whanga social circles. Best wishes go with them for future prosperity. The school concert in aid of the prize fund takes place on Friday night in the Whanga Hall. The children have been busy for some weeks practising and rehearsing action songs, drills, dialogues, etc., under the directions of the schoolmaster, Mr Mills, and Miss Hill (assistant teacher), and the public are promised a treat on the occasion. After the concert a dance will be held for the adult portion of the audience.
