NEWSPAPER MAN’S DECISION

(Received 13, 8.0 a.mV) Melbourne, December 13. In the Federal House, attention was called to an intimation received by the secretary of the Political Labour League from the proprietor of a country newspaper to the effect that in view of the disabilities imposed upon newspapers by the Federal Parliament he intended to charge 3s per inch for mwbli:Thing political speeches, and 6s per inch for similar advertisements. Asked if the Government would take action in the matter, Mr. Hughes (Attorney-General) said Parliament had not done anything in the matter of limiting the press or preventing them saying what they pleased, and only asked that political articles be signed.

It has been arranged to reconsider the scheme for redistributing the New South Wales electorates, which were twice rejected by the House. Bills abolishing the sugar excise bounty have been introduced in the flouse.

GOVERNMENT FINANCE. (Received 13, 9.35 a.m.) Sydney, December 13. Mr. Cann (Treasurer) has received a report from Mr. Coghlan, AgentGeneral in London, of the partial faiure of the recent three million loan. Only half the amount was available, after it was believed to have been floated. Mr. Coghlan thought the money was available, and was unable to offer any reason why the negotiations were suddenly declared off by the London Westminster Bank. The Government is negotiating for a further loan for an amount not to exceed one and a half millions. Melbourne, December 13. Victoria is borrowing two millions for the construction of .railways and rolling stock, and a million for various works.
