The High Commissioner cables as follows: Butter.—The market, is advanced, and it is difficult to decide the cause, but it is the opinion that traders consider it advisable to secure a sure supply of first-class quality for the Christmas trade, also it is believed it is becoming more general that colonial choicest will be in .small supply. Choicest New Zealand 118 s to 1225, ordinary quality 112 s to 116 s, Australian 114 s, Argentine 112 s, Danish 120 s, Siberian 108 s. Cheese.—The market is steady with a better demand. Lower prices are encouraging business. The average price for the week for finest New Zealand cheese was—white 60s 6d, coloured 61s 6d.
Quotations unless otherwise specified arc average market prices on spot. Mutton.—The market is firm, with a hardening tendency, high prices restricting business in market. Moderate supplies are coming forward. Canterbury North Island 4fd. Lamb.—The market is steady, and holders are firm. Canterbury 6fd. Beef.—There is a better demand. New Zealand hinds 3|d, fores 3|d. Hemp.—The market is quiet but steady. New Zealand good to failgrade £33, fair grade £3l 10s, fair current Manila £32, forward shipment £34. The output from Manila for the week was 18,000 bales. Wheat.—The market is dull on account of heavy arrivals from New Zealand, long-berried ex granary per quarter of 4961 b 38s, short-berried 375. Oat's.—The market is quiet but steady, with large supply. New Zealand short Sparrowbills ex granary per quarter of 3821 b 265, Danish per quarter of 3201 b 235. Beans.—The market is firm with more inquiry , for New Zealand. Faq 'new crop) per 6041 b 39s 6d. Peas.—The market is weak and inactive. New Zealand (Partridge) per 6041 b 38s Od.
River Plate shipments received during the month of November, 1912, at London were mutton 135,622 carcases, lamb 27,947. At Liverpool, mutton 74.363 carcases, lamb 16,346; At Cardiff, mutton 8272 carcases, lamb, 100. At Hull, mutton 10,000 carcases, lamb nil. At Southampton, mutton 20,143 carcases, lamb 3000. At Newcastle, mutton 6000 carcases, lamb nil. Totals, muttrtn 263,400 carcases, lamb 46.391. Regarding the wool sales, the market closed very strong with good competition and indications favourable for a continuance of present prices; 600 bales of New Zealand wools were held over. 'The estimated value was superior merino Is Id to Is 3Jd. medium lid to Is Id, inferior 9d to 10. pl. fine crossbreds Is Id to Is 3kl, medium Hd to Is IJd, coarse 9Jd to Is Id.
