JERSEY ISLAND TESTS.
RESULTS OCTOBER COMPETITIONS. By the courtesy of Mr. J. D. Healy, the well-known local Jersey breeder, we are enabled to publish the results of the Island butter test for October, as announced in the columns of the ‘Jersey Illustrated Weekly.’ It must bo remembered that all the calculations are based on Island weights—namely, 18oz to the lb. The winning cow in the under 5 years of age class, “Vigilance,” has a somewhat extraordinary lactation period of 351 days. This, however, is not a record. “Pet,” a purebred, but unregistered, Jersey, owned by Mr. “Tom” McPhillips, had four calves without once being dry. chill, tire Island cow’s performance is a remarkable one in this respect. The results are:
Cows, under .3 years of age—if. Dasmare’s Vigilance, 4 years, 331 days in milk, 451 b 12oz milk, 21b il-ijoz butter, 53.75 points; M. G. l)e La Haye’s i)ecia, 2J years, 154 days in milk, 331!) milk, 21b 12oz butter, 55.40 points; J. J. Le Masurier’s Speedwell 11., 31 years, 198 days'in milk, 241 b Boz milk, 21b 6j-oz butter, 50.50 points. Cows, 5 yeitt's and over.—J. J. Le Masurier’s Miriam 6th, 7J years, 165 days in milk, 321 b loz milk, 31b 6oz butter, 66 points; J. E. L. Marquand’s Yolande of the Elms, 11 years, 267 days in milk, 321 b loz milk, 21b Otoz butter, 53.50, points ; A. Davey’s Dinan, 9J years, 190 days in milk, 381 b 4oz milk, 21b 3;Joz butter, 17.75 points.
