A PRESBYTERIAN PROTEST. (Per Press AssociationA Wellington, December 7. The Kirk Session of St. John’s has sent a letter to the Hon. James Alien, Minister of Defence, strongly protesting against the panide at Trentham last Sunday, when military evolutions including target firing, were conducted. WANGANUI HARBOUR. Wanganui, December 7. The report presented to the Harbour Board last evening showed that the bar continued to maintain an increased minimum depth of 22ft 'bin., and the hoard adopted the recommendation of the engineer, Mr. Howarth, to dredge the river channel to give an additional 2ft., so as to admit larger vessels to the town wharves. The board also granted the engineer, in recognition of bis valuable services, six months’ holiday on full pay, to enable him to visit the principal harbours of the Old World.
