ENGLISH TENNIS TEAM.

IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Sydney, December 8. Tennis was continued in brignt and moderately warm weather. Tro courts wore considerably faster, and play all round showed a great improvement on Friday’s exhibition, some of it being really first-class and rousing enthusiasm. Beamish and Wright showed interesting play, with remarkably forceful and accurate service, which was effective occasionally, but was marred by numerous double faults. Parko opened badly against A. 15. Jones, the latter taking the first throe games, Parke showed plenty of pace but Ids length was bad. Ho then recovered and took the next live games and the tenth game. The second set was splendid, Jones was noticeable for accurate and fast shots and bis net play. The'eighth game produced seven al lengthy brilliant; rallies.

The doubles between Dixon ai d Beamish, and Wright and A. B. Jones wore the feature of the day’s play. The Englishmen played well, but New South Wales were brilliant} surpassing themselves/ especially Jones, who made few mistakes. His net play and placing were again admirable. Wright ably seconded him, and was especially good in overhead work. Dixon’s volleying was very powerful, and proved a splendid scoring stroke. Wright and Jones won the first set, and in Ibe second were practically unable to go wrong. Beamish heat Wright, 4—6, B—6, 6—3. Parke beat A. J 5. Jones, 6 o. 6—4. Wright' and A. 15. Jones beat Dixon and Beamish, 7—5, 6 L. Ir Parke and Low versus E. 1.. Jones and Rice, each pair won a set, 6—l, and bad light stopped play, which will be continued on Monday, the score not counting in the unfinished match. Britain won five rubbers, ten sets, and 93 games, and New South Wales one rubber, six sets, and 83 games.
