CRIMINALS SENTENCED.
COINERS AND CONFIDENCE MEN. (Received 9, 8.5 a.m.) London, December 8. Browne has been sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment, Byre to seven, and Watts to three years. Wallace was acquitted on the charge of forgery, and will be re-tried on a charge of coining. Inspector Gough, in evidence, said Byrne was an Australian long-distance runner. There had been a largo influx of Australia convicts to London in recent years. (Received 9, 9.5 a.m.) London, December 8. Byrne was recently engaged inpractising the confidence trick. Do used to drop a packet before bis victim, asserting it contained jewels which he was conveying to, the Pope. When it was picked up, he would say the victim had been of great service, and that he generally got £2OOO or £3OOO each time. Byrne spent much time on the Continent. Browne was associated with the famous forger Dr. Bridgewater. Hundreds of counterfeit coins wore found in his flat. , .. __
