A six days’ bicycle race will begin in New York on Sunday. Gordon Walker (Australia) won the five miles open professional trial, J. Walker (Australia) being second. The cycling mile indoor championship resulted: Kramer 1, Fogler 2, Walker 3. The Australia Mile Handicap resulted: Thomas 1, “Jumbo” Wells (New Zealand) 2, Mittou (Iowa) 3. FOOTBALL. London, December 8. The Springboks defeated the North of England by 21 points to 8. CRICKET. London, December 8. The correspondent of the Daily Chronicle says that practically from the time they landed the Australian crcketers were divided into hostile camps. It was regrettable that Mr Crouch’s report had not been treated as confidential. It was to be hoped that there would be an inquiry into the matter held in camera; otherwise some heroes of the sporting world would lose their lustre. At a meeting of delegates to the North Taranaki Association', a letter was read from the Wanganui Association asking for a match at Wanganui at Christmas, and it was decided to play them on December 25 and 28. The annual out match with the South Taranaki Association will be played at Hawera on December 27 and 28.
