SYDNEY CITY COUNCIL. Sydney, December 6. Several aldermen have offered their resignations in order that Sir Allen Taylor may retain his seat on the Council. Mr. Richards (late town clerk of Dunedin) has received a number cf New Zealand congratulations on bis election to aldermanic honours. “THE GATES OF HELL.” Melbourne, December 6. Judge Burnside, in sentencing an embezzler who bad lost money at the races, said: “The gates of hell are open in front of you on the racecourse. You will find yourself in a bell on earth if you follow that line.”
