—: o ACCIDENTAL DEATH. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, December 7. At the inquest on John Thomas Hop■kins, Public Health Inspector, who died yesterday, a verdict was returned that deceased met his death through a fracture of the skull, evidently sustained through accidentally falling down the hold of the steamer lonic. THREE CHILDREN INJURED. Eltharn, December 7. A horse ran away this morning with a trap containing throe small children named Tay!of>,"of Mangamtngi. The vehicle collided with a telegraph post, the horse was lamed, the trap smashed, and the children seriously injured. POLICE SURPRISE PACKET. Waihi, December 7. The inquest in connection with the death of Evans was adjourned till Wednesday. The police force stationed here voluntarily subscribed amongst them £lO for the hospital as a mark of kindness shown to them by the local citizens. It was a surprise packet to the Hospital Board, who accepted the amount with grateful thanks.
NO MINISTERIAL MATTER. Tiinaru, December 7. The case of the men recently on strike at Timaru was put before the Minister of Railways yesterday by a representative of the Timaru Waterside Workers’ Union. The Minster replied that as the trouble was really a dispute between two unions he would not interfere in it.
