AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE

Great interest is being displayed in

the presentation at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday evening of “Treasure Island.” A pictorial representation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous hook. Who has not read the story? Most men can remember how, years ago, they sat up in bed in the “wee sma’ hours” with the candle dripping into darkness as they followed those marvellous adventures of Jimmy Hawkins and the buccaneers who sailed in search of Treasure Island. The film is taken in Bermuda by the Edison players, and is claimed to be a masterpiece. A good dramatic film is always welcome, and “Treasure Island” presenting such a magnificent and so popular a story is an event of more than passing interest. Seven hundred and fifty feet of merit will be released on the slime evening, in a fire brigade picture. The Los Angeles Fire Department has long been recognised as one of the most successful, modern, and best organised departments in this country. In this remaskable picture, posed exclusively for tin* Selig Polyscope Co., we are shown scenes in the daily interesting life of a fireman. We see him at his work and his play.* We follow him through his remarkable training in which he is called upon to perform dangerous and thrilling feats,_ such as climbing lofty ladders, jumping into life nets, descending into the fiery interior of burn'ng buildings, carrying hose up perpendicular walls, using the dangerous scaling ladders, etc., etc. Scenes in and around the world famous Byrne Building fire complete this interesting and thrilling subject.
