STRATFORD RACING CLUB.

A VISIT TO THE COURSE. A visit to the Racecourse proves that this Club iias not been idle since last year, and appointments are well in hand lor the coming meeting. The principal improvement lias been the alteration and remodelling of the tocalisator house to accommodate a new machine on the silent principle, winch the club has wisely decided to instal. 1-no machine is to be run by Messrs. Marrett and Fox, of Hawse’s Inn, wno Jmve nad considerable experience in tins work, and have given great

satisfaction on all courses where they nave worked, and no doubt the pnoli, will not have tno same complaints regetting their money on as they made last year. The club has done away with all the races in front of the tocalisator house, thereby relieving a lot of the congestion. The lawn investors will get their tickets on one side of the house and the outside public on the opposite side. In all, provision ha been made for sixteen ticket sellers, which should bo quite capable cf cop ing with the New Year’s Hay crowd, and ample windows have been placer* for the lucky ones who draw dividends. The club intends making the ticket; £1 for both inside and outside. The to talisator house when finished will bt quite an attractive-locking building, and will have many improvements aim innovations which have been well tnought out by the club and the archi tect, Mr. Wick. The work is being car cied out by Messrs. Holden and McLean. Amongst other improvements are the alterations to the gentlemen’, cloak room, which will make it more convenient, and also the glazing of tin sides of the judge’s box. The Course Committee has also done good work since last meeting by pro curing a 3] ton roller, and the track, are now in first-class order. Severnsmall dips in the course proper have been raised and regrassed, and, with the continued stocking of sheep, the turf is very firm and solid, and some fast times should bo recorded. Tin trees planted by the club have done wonderfully well, and should prove i great asset in a few years, and tin general appearance of the property i; comparison to its rough state of a fev years ago is a credit to the club am Caretaker Lloyd. A comprohensiv. reading scheme is now being drawn nj oy Messrs. Robinson and Christoph era, which will bo dealt with after th races. By this scheme it is propose* to make a fifty-foot metalled roa-t from' the entrance gate to the People’ Stand, and a special paddock is to b set apart for motor cars. This roa< should bo a great improvement, am will obviate the foot traffic on part; of the course proper, and the car traf lie across the centre of the course.

The club’s new secretary, Mr. Ai fred Coleman, has everything well i hand for the coming meeting, whic. iiromiscs to eclipse all past ones. ThCatering Committee are co si icripg tin advisability of doing away with th. set dirfners, and providing a high shilling lunch which would be on fror, eleven o’clock. Tins, we think, wil find favour with the pub.ic, and is tin style alreadv adopted at Ellerslie an some of the other larger courses. NOMINATIONS.
