HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board was held this morning. Present: The Chairman (Mr E. Marfell), Messrs E. S. Ward, J-. McAllister, A. Meredith, AV. Rogers, and J. Smith. CORRESPONDENCE. Nurse Brake tendered her resignation.—Accepted with regret. It was decided to ask Miss Condon to fill the vacancy, this probationer being tho next on tho list. The Matron of tho S. A. Girl’s Home wrote, with regard to a certain case: “Unless your Board are prepared to pay for the child, we are not in a position to do anything in the case. Certainly the poor little maiden should have help (committal to the State would be better than neglect). We would like to have helped her, but already we have quite too many cases in this Home left on our'hands, for whom we receive no payment at all. I think you will understand our position.”

Dr. Yalintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, wrote with regard to a matter to which his attention had been drawn by the Matron. The lavatory floors were in an unsightly condition, but through no fault of the ollicer who attended to them. He recommended the application of a certain cement paint. The letter was received. ' A letter from the same source was received with regard to the submitting for the approval of the Minister in charge of the Department, plans or details connected with any alterations or additions to buildings, or any outlay on other purposes involving an expenditure of £250 or over. Without exception Boards had complied with the letter of the law, but he would also ask Boards, as a matter of courtesy, to acquint the Department of any proposed alterations to buildings that do not involve an outlay of £250 so that the Department may have an opportunity in a purely advisory capacity, of making suggestions in connection therewith that might result in the money being expended with more advantage to the institution concern ed. —Received.

The Chairman of the Visiting Committee reported trouble with dogs at the fowl yard of the hospital and it. was decided to lay poison. Dr. Steven reported that during the month fourteen patients were admitted, and thirteen discharged. Three operations were performed under anaesthetics. Nurse Healy had been examined in anatomy and physiology, the paper being set by Dr Carbery, who reported that the result was satisfactory. The chairman reported that the canvass of the country districts with regard to hospital funds was going along satisfactorily. One day’s work had produced £59 from nine people.

It was mentioned that the Horticultural Society would discuss at their next meeting the proposal to ass'-st in making buttonholes. Mr Ward spoke in favour of advertising the collection on Saturday evening and also the matinee so kindly given by Madame Bernard.
