an overtime book. (Por Press Association.) Dunedin, November 29. A prosecution under section 58 ot the Arbitration and Conciliation Amendment Act was instituted against John Warded, grocer, this morning charging him with the failure to keep a wages overtime book according to the form prescribed by the regulations. Defendant contended that a book showing overtime where there was any, but containing _no entry where there was no overtime, filled the requirements of the Statute, ami no power was given under the Act to <rive the regulation the force of law. The Magistrate held that section 53 was only an amendment of section 100 of the' original Act, under which it was competent for the Govcrnor-m-Council to provide regulations and inspectors whose duties could not he carried out without this regulation. A line of £2 was imposed.

Trouble with the waterside workers (Federaiionists) is again threatened concerning two railwayman employed on the wharves, a crane driver and a tally clerk, over whom a temporary strike occurred some time ago. Tins was ended by the two men joining the union. They'have since given notice ot withdrawal, and tlio unionists state that they ■will not work nnv vessel at which these*men are employed nicer terminating their notice of withdrawal A statement is current that an endeavour is to he made to form an Aihitrationisfc Union among the watersiclcrs. /
