ST. HELEN’S HOME.
(Per Press Association.)' Auckland, November 30. Representations were made to the Premier (the Hpn. W. F. Massey) by deputation of the nursing and general treatment of women at St. Helen’s Maternity Home. It was stated that though the home was intended for the wives of poor men such were often refused admittance, though others whose husbands were earning good salaries were admitted. Allegations were also made in regard to the conduct of the Home from a nursing point of view, and the desirability of a Magisterial inquiry was urged. The Premier said somewhat serious allegations had been made regarding the method of treatment of women admitted to the Home, and arrangements had already been made for a Magisterial inquiry. At present the building was altogether unsuitable, and a new building would have to bo provided as soon as possible.
