WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting pf the "Whangamoinoim County Council was hold °n .Momliiy, when there were present, Councillors A. Meredith (chairman), W. Uslcon, A. R. Clcland, E. B. lloherton, J. Digging, A. Coyne, and W. A. MeCntehan. Councillor MeCntehan moved, and Councillor Meredith seconded, that the Public Works Department’s litter re repairs to Ohnra and Mangaro roads, he acknowledged and the Department advised that the Comity Chairman would confer with the member for the district, regarding the position. The motion was carried. On the motion of Councillor Meredith and Bacon, it was decided to instruct the Clerk to ask Messrs Bradley, Court and E. McChiggage if they would he agreeable to he appointed a management committee for .the Whangnmomona Cemetery. Mr Aagaard’s tender for dog collars was accepted. Mr Smith, waited upon the Council, asking that the slips be removed from the Poarangi road, in order’ to allow him to cart out his wool.

, A motion was passed, on the initiative of Councillors Bacon and Coyne, that the Council undertake the maintenance of the road in question, to the end of the present twelve feet formation. The engineer was also instructed to put the road in order at a cost not exceeding £lO. The Engineer’s report was adopted. Correspondence was received from Mr ,T. If. Mounsey relative to a subsidy on the £3BOO loan, and a motion was passed that Councillor Coyne he authorised to interview the Minister for Public Works re the balance of subsidy due, and if necessary to proceed to Wellington. He Messrs Needham Bros.’ application for an extra allowance on contract it was decided to make an allowance of £lO, for removal of slips, same to he charged to Loan Account.

Mr C. McPhee wrote as regards talcoyer certain surplus metal, and a motion was passed that 200 yards be Liken at 5s Gd per yard, £3O to be 'debited to the Murcott Road, and' the balance to the Brewer Road Account.

He a letter from Mr S. W. Mills, with reference to the drain across the Y hangamomona Road, permission was granted, subject to the supervision of tiie Riding Foreman and at the expense of the writer. On the motion of Councillors Coyne and the Chairman, a motion was passed rescinding a previous resolution that Mr J. M. Jones bo refused payment for work done, and agreeing to pay the claim for the work done on the Manga re wa Road.

Another motion that a separate rate be levied oyer the Kohuratahi Road separate rating area of £d in the £, was negatived on a division.

A motion was carried that a separate account' he kept for the township of Whangamomona of all revenue-and rates front the township, same to be opened on April Ist. It was agreed that the special order instituting the Loan of £3BO, being 10 per cent, of the £3BOO loan, he instituted.

Cr. McCiitchau was requested to draft a remit concerning the matter of dual control of roads’, same to be considered by the Counties’ Confer-

The Engineer was authorised to widen the Upper Mangaehu Hoad, near, the end of contract No. 33, same to lie charged to ! the Loan Account.

Meredith was the. only dissentient in a motion that the Engineer ho instructed to lav off further formation woi'k on acdolurt of the £2500 loan. 0 M Councillor; Coyne and Meredith carried a motion that the amount overpaid on'account of'the £3BOO loan, namely, £220,; he repaid out of the 10 Dcr cent, do the said loan.

Other motions passed were:— (I) That in the event of a favouraide reply being received by Councillor Coyne in re £7OO subsidy on Brewer/Road, tenders he called for metalling contract No. 30.

(2) That the Engineer do the necessary repairs on the Prospect Road at a cost of not more than £lO.

(3) That' applications be called for a roadman in the Central Riding at the same time as for the Strathmore Riding, and at 9s per day. (4) That the-Engineer have the slips on the Lower Kohuratahi Road removed.

(5) That the Pntikituna Road ho kept open for wool-traffic. Accounts were then passed for payment, and the-Council rose.
