AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
MR SPEAKER WILLIS. Sydney, November 29. In the Council strong protests were made against Dir Speaker Willis ignoring the President’s authority in connection with the payment of the Parliamentary staff. The President declared that Mr Willis was acfng illegally and without his concurrence. Mr Wlliis, in a handed to the press, expresses surprise at the President’s displeasure. He claims that lie had legal warrant for his action. The Speaker had become an automaton, but bis installation brought “the rubber stamp regime” to an end. His reforms did not meet with approval from persons dominated by envy, hatred and malice, but they must prevail.
THE LOAN BILL. Sydney, November 29. In the Assembly the Treasurer’s Loan Bill to raise £8,924,520 by four per cent, debentures passed.
