GUESSING COMPETITION.

STRATFORD A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. This morning the staff of the A. and P. Association and scrutineers sorted out the tickets of the winners in the weight guessing competitions. This popular competition attracted many patrons and the net proceeds will ‘be in the neighbourhood of £4O. But the Association should have it placed in a more prominent position, when undoubtedly the takings would have been doubled. The fat bullock weighed 7-20Hb, and Mr R. Lloyd (Stratford) guessed this weight E. Daire (Stratford), Miss Young (Stratford!, Joseph Kowaieski (Aaipuku). and (). L. Frank (Huiakama) guessed 7201 b and divide the second and third prizes with E.Walters(Douglas),whose guess was 7211 b. The highest gues; was 10011 b, and the lowest 14541-b; but the latter was an obvious mistake since it was registered by a man who has little to learn about the weight ol cattle.

The Sheep. The three sheep _ were excellently judged. They weighed 2201 b, and quite fifty people got within a few pounds, Hour competitors guessing tin exac t weight. These were: Messrs C. W. Gilford (Hiiiroa), W. H. Were (Toko), “Tim” Jones _ (Wanganui),, and H. Hucks-tep (Midhirst). The Pigs.

The pigs were deceptive. Well known butchers wore all astray, and even one of the biggest buyers in New Zealand, and a man who ought to know, missed by some twenty pounds. No one guessed the correct weight, 224-}lb. Mr G. Agent (Riverlea) 2251 b, Mrs Brewer ( Makaliu) 223£1b, and Mr P. Deegan (Rowan) 223.)1b, divide the prize money.

’ln the yearling Jersey grade heifer class for dairy purposes at the show. A. Hazelton, Opunake Road, Stratford, was awarded first prize. The excellence of the catering at the official luncheon table was the subject of, remark on both days. Mrs M H. Brooking with her army of waitresses catered well for the wants oi their numerous patrons, and the host ess is to be congratulated upon hei efforts.
