During the search for Mrs Nowill Delay seized the coastguard lieutenant, remarking: “I will throw yon over the cliff too.’ He then suddenly apologised to the officer, who wanned the police to watch Delay. A verdict of felo de se was returned. Yesterday the cables stated that Mrs Sydney Nowill, wife of a Sheffield manufacturer, mysteriously d:sappeared from a fashionable hotel in New Quay. James Delay, a retired Singapore solicitor residing at the same hotel, after participating in the search, became distraught and committed suicide. A cddicil to Delay’s will loit Mrs No will a considerable sum. Evidence at the inquest on Delay indicated only friendliness between deceased and Mrs Nowill.
At the inquest, the coastguardsman gave evidence that he saw a lady and gentleman on Saturday through a glass apparently quarrelling. The husband gave evidence that Delay was a friend and that a codicil in his will which was dated September, 1912, left his wife £33,000. He knew no reason for the gift.
