SUNDRY SPORTS.

(Received 8.40 a.m.) Sydney, November 25. At the Broken Hill Athletic Carnival McDonald, a New Zealander, won his boats in the 75yds and 220yds events, but was beaten by Hemplc in the 130yds.

SCULLING. PEARCE V. BARRY. (Received 8.40 a.m.) Sydney, November 25. Pearce accepts Barry’s offer of £IOO expenses, and starts for London about March. He expects to row at the end of July. RIFLE-SHOOTING. The proposal made by the chairman of the New Zealand Club’s executive, Mr H. Marshall, president of the Karori Rifle Club, in regard to the much-debated figure targets, has been adopted. A standard set of colours for the target has been approved for the whole of the Dominion. The figures themselves are also to bo cut to a standard size, shape and colour. Perforated sheets of patches of the correct colours will also be supplied. The material will be stocked by the Defence stores, and those requiring it will apply in the usual manner. The Commandant has agreed to issue it free of charge, so that rifle clubs will shortly, at the minimum of expense and inconvenience, be able to keep their targets up to date and in conformance with the approved condition;-, for the Trentham meeting. One of the greatest objections to the figure target in the past has been the variety of colours and shapes in which it appeared in different ranges in the Dominion. Under the new idea, however, exactly the same class of figure target will be in use in every range in the Dominion. The colours for the figure target were suggested by Mr Marshall, and the paper for the figures by Captain Wallingford, being afterward's approved by General God ley. There is not enough of the required paper in New Zealand to supply all at the present time. However, a large order has been sent to England, and in the meantime the Defence stores will issue what they have.
