Lipton has issued a challenge for the 20-metre yachts’ universal measurements race, to take place at the Panama Cnal celebrations at San Francisco in 1915. New South Wales’ first innings realised 123. BOXING. Sydney, November 23. Vaul Till was awarded the victory in a slashing twenty rounds fight with Jack Read. FOOTBALL. London, November 24. In the football match the Springboks defeated Scotland by sixteen points to nil. Vancouver, November 24. The All-Stars team, British Columbia, defeated Australia by fifteen points to nil. The visitors were handicapped on account of the wet ground. BOWLING. THE SOUTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT. Wellington, November 24. The South Island bowling team returned to Wellington on Friday evening from their tour of the North, and on Saturday morning, some of the players went to the Hutt where a friendly game resulted in a win for the local club, who, however, had been reinforced by players from other clubs. On returning to the city the visitors were entertained at luncheon by the Wellington Centre, and in the afternoon a test match was played between the Southerners, representing the New Zealand Bowling Association,.and eight rinks from the different Wellington clubs. In the semi-final for the singles, Lowe beat Marsh, 7—5, 6—4, 6 —4. In the final, Parke beat Lowe, 6—3, 6—o, 6—2. Park was superior from the, base line. Lowe was wearied by the semi-final doubles. * Id ""the-' semi-fhVal, Dutilop and Brookes beat Heath and Lycett, 6—4, 6—2, 6—l. There was considerable interest, as the winners are likely to meet the Britishers in the contest for the Davis Cup. Brookes’ play was magnificent. In the final, Brookes and Dunlop beat Parke and Beamish, 6—2, 6—4, 6—4. The Victorians played splendidly together, frequently surmounting seemingly impossible difficulties. In the second sot the Victorians quickly ran to 3—o, and the Spectators thought the match would soon end. The third set saw a magnificent rally by Dunlop, who was brilliant. Dunlop served extremely well in the last two sets into the corners, and along the linos, keeping the Britishers always moving. He skilfully avoided Beamish’s strong back-hand strokes. Brookes was in his best form. Beamish was slow, his form breaking down frequently. On the volley Parke was the better of the pair. SCULLING. A deposit of £5 has been forwarded to the editor of the Sydney Referee by Eddie Larsen, on behalf of Miss Alma Larsen (Broadwater, Richmond river) to row Miss Fern Kemp for the Australian Women’s Sculling Championship (best-and-best boats) for £SO aside. The challenger asks for £lO papooses if the race is rowed on the Parramatta river.
