THE HOME FLEET. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) „ London, November 21. , Mr Churchill, replying id,a question, denied that the delay in increasing blue-jackets’ pa/ was due to the allocation of the money to medical benefits. Answering a question as to whether the presence of the fleet in the Near East weakened home defence, Mr Churchill declared that the. Admiralty was satisfied that the home fleet was sufficient for the safety of the country.
FINANCIAL RESOLUTIONS. London, November 21. After the closure, the report on the financial resolutions was carried by 317 to 195. Mr Balfour condemned the power to invest by the Exchequer Board, which would he able to establish protectionist duties inconsistent with the independence of the British and Irish Chancellor’s Exchequer. Sir E. Carson challenged him to point out a single advantage that Ireland would gain by the Bill. All the Government wanted was to grant Home Rule, because it had to. Ireland would lose her power of borrowing 'under Imperial credit. Increased taxation was the Bill’s keynote.
