A SLEEPER ON THE RAILS.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, November 22. A report from Taupiri states that marks are plainly to be seen where a- sleeper was put across the rails and where the ballast was disturbed as the engine dragged the sleeper along. The railway officials scout the idea that a sleeper had fallen across the rails or had got there without being deliberately placed in the position. There was a rumour that the outrage was an attempt on the part of a disaffected and eccentric employee in the railway service.
