LAWN TENNIS. THIO INTERSTATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Melbourne, November 20. The tennis tournament was largely attended. The weather was cool and cloudy and the courts in good order. The principal attraction was the English players, who wore cordially greeted. Dixoir and Lowe in the double championship heat St. John and Blair, 3—2, I—fj, 6—2, G—l. Dixon played a beautiful game. His severe volleying was pretty right across the court and his back hand play evoked frequent applause. HA was ably supported by Lowe, who was serving well. Tones and Wright beat Marsh and Diliview, 6—3, 3—G, B—6, 4—6, 6—3. It was a magnificent game. Ollivier, immediately after beating Thomas in a game winch lasted over two hours, began the doubles, which were considered the best series. Ollivier’s overhead play and volleying were very attractive. Brookes and Dunlop beat Anderson and Thomas, 6—l, 6—5, 7—5. In the .singles championship Wright beat. Wood, 3—6, 4—6, 6—2, o—4, 3—o. The Englishman was never extended and 'repressed the spectators by his beautiful ground strokes and back handing. He was particularly graceful and effective with fine straight shots and fast service' shots executed in orthodox style. Dixon was very safe. Lowe beat Down, 6—2, 6—3, 6—l. The Englishman played beautiful safe ground shots and showed a lot of pace with good length.
