At the resumed enquiry into the disappearance of Hose by from the steamer Wodonga his brother testified that as a result of further enquiries he was satisfied that the deceased was a total abstainer till the- hour of his death. He submitted the statement of a doctor who examined the deceased, to tnr effect that ho was physically sound but mentally strange. The coroner stated that, after a careful examination of the evidence, lie could come tc no other conclusion than that deceased continued and died a total abstainer. Ho- was glad that his character was cleared. The enquiry urns adjourned. Melbourne, November 11.
Jacob Watriena, who claims the kingship of the Loyalty Islands, in an interview with the Federal Ministers, stated that the islanders desired to place the group under the control of the dommonwealth. If it was not taken oyer by Australia, it would soon be in the possession of the Japanese. About'six thousand Japs and many soldiers and spies- are working in the nickel mines. The Ministers promised that the Cabinet would give consideration to the matter.
