James Barraclough, employed at the Waihi Co.’s Waikino line was knocked over the embankment this morning by the down-going engine. The man was just round the bend when the engine appeared. The brakes were applied, but there Was no time to prevent the mishap. Barraclough is suffering from concussion of the spine* but no bones are broken.

Tlie negative result of Sunday’s meeting crystallised a movement long pending of the formation of. a nonunion in the Jnanaghua -mining district.' Already oOominors’ naim'es have been handed in aftd 'a meeting is to be called at ,an early date to elect officials. Rules and regulations have been drawn up, and the question at issue is, Can a new union be registered under the Arbitration Act? The promoters have taken legal advice and it is stated l this! is possible.
