WHAT IS IT?
GOULBURN’S STRANGE ANIMAL
Mr R. W. Dawson, stock inspector, confirms the story of the existence of a strange animal (as referred to in the “Post” yesterday), .and said to have been seen in the Bombala district, lie having seen it in 1907. He was then riding in the neighbourhood of Crecawal, in thick scrub, cast of Bull-hill, when his horse became very nervous, snorted, and trembled under him, having, Mr Dawson thinks, smelt something uncommon. About two miles further on Mr Dawson says he dismounted to cross a swamp, leaving the horse to feed with the bridle trailing. When Mr Dawson sought to seize him the horse started back along tnc track and was lost sight of. Mr Dawson followed the horse, which had loft the bridle track, and saw in front of him a dark object, which he at first took to bo a peculiar looking stump. When the object, whatever is was, bounded off at right angles, Mr Dawson was struck by the pace, stride, and force of the footfalls.
Subsequently, Mr Dawson was informed by a resident that bo had himself seen a hairy man in the neighbourhood a short time previously. Mi Fred Heffernan, of Thoko, told Mr Dawson that-he bad many a hunt for some animal because of peculiar footprints be had seen. Mr Dawson bar in bis possession a letter written by him to bis daughter iu 1907, telling her of the above experience.
