(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, November 5. Hannah Lang, wife of the custodian of the Princess Theatre, committed suicide this morning by cutting her throat. The woman was removed to the hospital. Christchurch, November 5.

The yearling sales commenced today with the Warrington, Kinloch, and Bushy Park batches. The sales were poor. The principal sales of the Kinloch stud were—Bay colt by Charlemagne ll—Neva, Mr T. H. Lowry, 220 guineas. Bushy Park—Filly by Boniform—Carissima, Mr W. Duncan, 260 guineas; colt by Signor—Simonia, Mr J. Chadwick, 160 guineas; filly, by Signor—Helen Portland, Mr J. F. Buchanan, 150 guineas. Warrington stock gold badly, nothing realising more than fifty guineas. Dannevirke, November 5.

The local Territorials were unexpectedly under fire last evening at the weekly parade. One of the number, out of curiosity, inserted a dum-dum cartridge, a relic of the South African War, in the barrel of his rifle, thinking the shot had been exploded. He pulled the trigger and the cartridge discharged making a large hole in the floor of the drill hall. Many of the cadets were in the hall at the time. The offender was ’ severely reprimanded.

A fire ocurrccd early this morning in a six-roomed house in High Street, owned by Mrs Wysocki and occupied by M. Sanders and family. Splendid work was done by the brigade, whi eh confined the flames to the kitchen, though the building was somewhat damaged by water. Jibe insurances cover the damage, which is comparatively light.

Carterton, November 5

A six-roomed house at Wailiakoke, occupied by (Albert Ady, and owned by bis mother was blown up by the explosion of twenty pounds of gelatine this morning. Every board went skywards. No one was in the house at the time and nobody was injured.
