Christoffel, J. Smith, E, Hinc, and A. Meredith. Correspondence. A lengthy letter was received from the Wellington Hospital Board with regard to the treatment of consumptive patients, and preventing the spread of the disease generally. Mr Ward moved that the Board ho thanked for their letter and the recommendations endorsed. Mr McAllister moved as an amendment that the letter ho “ilcceived,” and this was carried. A further motion that the Wellington Board be thanked was carried. The names of Miss Florence Wilson, and Miss Rita Carr-Comyrs wore plated on the probationers’ list. Reports. The Medical Superintendent (Dr, Steven) reported that during October nineteen patients were admitted, twelve were discharged, and thirteen remained. There were no deaths. ,One operation was performed. The Matron reported that Nurse Myers had taken up her duties on the Ist instant.

The Sanitary Inspector reported tliai no infectious diseases had been notified in the district during the month. The marts, butchers’ shops, fish shops, and fruit shops in the Stratford Borough had been inspected. An inspection had been made of the Midhirst township, and matters requiring attention had been reported to the District Health Officer. Bread had been weighed at the bakehouse and found to be full weight.' The reports were adopted. Financial.

The secretary stated that the Board was £l5O short on its ordinary account, and if the public did not come forward they would also be £l5O shore on capital account. During the year there had been a great number of patients, but the patients could not be blamed for the increased expenditure as they had come forward better tnan previously in paying their accounts. Greatly increased cost in provisions, salaries and charitable aid accounted for the deficiency. The chairman said a levy would be necessary, but this would not be very serious for the local bodies, as there would be a Government subsidy upon it.
