CHINAMAN’S LUCK. (Per Press Association.) Gore, November 3. By a fire at 8.30 this morning-two shops in tho main street, occupied by Joseph Ballintinc (tailor) and Joe Lee (laimdryma'n) were both gutted. The Chinaman saved nearly everything. Ballintine’s stock was destroyed. The buildings were owned by Willis and Waddol. Insurance : Ballintine’s stock £IOO in the New Zealand Office, and on the building £l5O also in the New Zealand Office.

SUCCESSFUL EGG SHIPMENT. Christchurch, November 3. Mr J. B. Merrett has received word from the Agricultural Department that a cable has been received from Vancouver advising that the shipment of eggs sent forward from New Zealand in September realised Is 6d a dozen. The price is remarkably high for the time of the year, and it is expected that eggs will reach 3s per dozen during December. It is not anticipated that further shipments will be made this season, owing to inability to secure space in the Vancouver steamers. The eggs arrived in excellent conditipn, and the merchants at Vancouver are asking for larger shipments to bo made of both eggs and porrltry.
