GENERAL CABLES.
BELFAST JULY DISTURBANCES. (Received 9.0 a.m.) London, November' 3. The Crown lias entered a nolle pro sequi against the men arrested for the July disturbances in Belfast, but the\ were re-arrested on the Magistrate’s warrant. The Crown Solicitor demanded that the case should bo hoard by Die Magistrate instead of before eight justices, declaring that the Bench was packed. The police, acting on the Crown’s instruction, refused to produce the prisoners, and the hearing was adjourned.
THE DUTCH INDIES. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Hague, November 3. The cruiser, Guelderlaud, has been ordered to Smyrna. The Government is considering the expenditure of 3| nrllions sterling to provide naval defence and fortification of the Dutch Indies. EXPLOSION OF CARTRIDGE. Berlin, November 3. A cartridge exploded during mining practice at Kiel, killing a naval oflicer and ,sailor and injuring two ethers. THE PUTUMAYO OUTRAGES. Lima, November 3. The authors of the Putumayo outrages are to be punished. Lieutenant Vele/.devilla has been arrested for complicity. THE FIRE AT BARKER’S. London, November 3. There were heartrending scenes at the fire at Barker’s. The heat was so intence that further rescue was impossible 1 . Some leapt to the pavement and were seriously injured. The rescued girl saw four companions perish. Eight are still missing, and their safety is hopeless. Four succumbed in the hospital. The building was gutted.
