The mystery of the jewellery robbery at Harris and Scarfe, when £IOOO worth was stolen, has been solved. Bert Isaacsen, the liftman, discovered at night on the premises, informed detectives where a portion of the missing jewellery, valued at £75, was concealed. He admitted ho had two accomplices. A WOMAN MURDERED. Fremantle, October 30. A French settler named Marius Martin, gave a neighbour a sealed note, stating that Mrs Martin had been murdered. The body was found in Martin’s house hacked about the head with a tomahawk. Martin is missing. NEW SOUTH WALES FRUIT. Sydney, October 30. A fruit famine is prevailing, and it is 20 years since fruit was so scarce. NORTH MT. LYELL MINE. Hobart, October 30. Vapour and fumes arc still issuing from North Mount Lyell mine, ana there is no apparent diminution of the
gases. Until a change comes it will be impossible vto attempt to recover the forty-two bodies.
