PLAGUE AT NOUMEA. News has been received by mail of eight cases of plague at Noumea, from September 17th to October 17th, comprising one Javanese, and seven Kanakas. There were five fatal cases. The authorities are endeavouring to stamp out the disease. AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING CO. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Melburne, October 29. A Hobart firm has petitioned for the winding up of the Australian Shipping Coy., Melbourne, on the ground that a judgment of £IBB 11s 9d had not been satisfied. The petition was accepted and an official liquidator was appointed. BUSHMAN’S TRAGIC DEATH. Brisbane, October 29. A hushmau named Davency, passing a tree on Terriek Station, heard sounds of young galahs. He stood on horseback and put his arm into the hollow limb, where the nest was situated. The horse walked away, leaving Daveney swinging in mid air. He attempted to cut the imprisoned arm at the shoulder, but failed; lie succeeded, however in cutting it at the elbow, when lie fell. He walked a few yards and lay down and died. BISHOP OF NORTH QUEENSLAND Bishop Frogsham, North Queensland, retires on March 31st owing to health reasons.
