Mr J. B. Hine, M.P., left for Wellington by the mail train this morning. Mr .Ralph ®ollins has been appointed inspector to the Taranaki Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. There were nine applicants. It is expected Mr Collins will take up his duties on November 1. The Rev. W. Will, one of the oldest ministers of the Presbyterian Churcn, died in Dunedin on Saturday. Mr Wbll was born in Scotland in 182.5, and in 1863 he decided to come to New Zealand. He was appointed second minister in Otago, and took up his duties at East Taieri in February, 1861. , He remained in charge of that congregation for 45 years, but advanc!ing years necessitated his retirement from active work in 1899. Mr N. Fulton, of the Dairy Produce Department, returned to Stratford on Saturday night after spending several weeks in the Wellington and Hawke’s Bay provinces, where he has been engaged in organisation work connected with the heard-testing movement of the dairy industry. Herdtesting associations have been successfully started at Hastings, Norrewood, Kairanga, Rata, and Woodville. There are no less than 53 m.emb rs at the latter place, which is probably the largest number to be found in any one 1 district at the inception of an association.
