THE REVOLT IN BRAZIL.
DEFEAT OF THE TROOPS. Rio de Janeiro, October 25. The fanatics under a monk’s leadership defeated the police and troops. The commander and several officers were killed. Federal reinforcements have been despatched. A cablegram on September 26 stated —Troops have been sent to Santa Catherina to suppress a fanatical movement led by a self-styled monk, who is urging revolt and declaring that a monarchy 'has been proclaimed in Northern Brazil.
