N.Z. Loan and M.A. Co.’s Report. [ The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. and Reduced, Stratford Branch, report as follows: On Saturday, 19th inst., we held our usual weekly springing heifer sale in our Stratford yards, when there .was a fair yarding of 50 heifers and 10 dairy cows. Nearly all 1 the cattle were disposed of at the hammer at satisfactory prices, as , follows : Shorthorn heifers close to profit £V 10s to £9 2s Gd; Shorthorn heifers, backward and low in condition, £4 7s Gd to £G 15s ; Holstein heifers, £8 10s to £9 7s Gd; heifers showing Jer-sey-Hoistein cross, £9 to £10; dairy cows realised from £5 to £lO for cows showing down well. On Monday, 21st inst., we held our annual bull fair in our Stratford yards, when there was a large yarding of 120 bulls and also a good attendance of buyers, over 130 being present. Prices on the whole were rather low compared with last season’s opening rates. The quality, with a few exceptions, was rough, and the bulls were an unattractive lot of cattle which did not impress buyers, but anything showing quality attracted, fair bidding, as compared with other sales this season. A good percentage were sold at prices as follows :—Shorthorn yearling bulls, 3gns to 4gns; Shorthorn bulls, 2 years and upwards,? 7gns to 12gns; Holstein bulls, 4gus to s£gns; Holstein bulls, 2 years old to 4 years old, Ggns to 13i|gns; Jersey yearling bulls, 3gus to Ggus; Jersey bulls, 2 years to 6 years, sgus .to llgns,; bulks of J ersey-Ayrshire cross realised from 7gns to 9|gns. On Tuesday, 22nd inst., we held our usual fortnightly combined sale in our Stratford yards, when there was a yarding of 570 head of mixed, cattle and 18 fat sheep. Prices for store cows' ’are very good at present, as they are keenly sought after. Wo quote prices as follows:—Mixed yearlings of poor quality, 32s to 52s Gd; yearling steers, Shorthorn sorts small framed, madebJrfm 50s Taj. 58s; good conditioned cattle realised from 60s to G7s 6d; yearling Shorthorn heifers, small but in good condition, made from 58s to 635; 4ersoy-Holstein cross yearling heifers realised from 70s to 100 s for nice well done farmer’s lines; Jersey yearling heifers) of good quality, brought good prices, making from 90s to 114 s Gd; 2-year-old steers, 85s to 90s; 2-year-old empty heifers, Shorthorn sorts, made from,B3s to 90s; Holstein heifers, 89s to 100 s; 3-year-old steers, 105 s to 116 s; store cows, low conditioned, 48s; cows, ordinary sorts, 76s to 89s; forward cows, 92s to 102 s; fat cows, 120 sto 1265. We also sold 18 forward ewes at 17s 4d. We also held a dairy sale on the same day, heifers coming forward in good numbers. Prices were rather better than on Saturday, and we quote as follows ;—Shorthorn heifers, close to profit, 140 s to 177 s Gd; heifers, rather backward, 87s 6d to 120 s; Jersey-Hol-stein heifers, close to profit, 150 s to 200 s; dairy cows, close to profit, 135 s to 225s 1 ; cows in low condition and backward, brought from 65s to 100 s; 2-year heifers, calved, realised from 115 s to 1455.
