LOAN PROPOSALS.
£16,000 ’FOR STREET IMPROVEMENTS. Last night, at a special meeting of the Borough Council, a definite stage was leached in the loan proposals, when the last estimate for street-im-provements was brought down, considered, and scheduled. The Mayor then moved, and the motion was duly carried, that the schedule of street improvements as brought down be adopted. The following is a summary of the position.' In some places estimates have been given for kerbing, channelling, and metalling in one amount, and thus it is impossible
to divide the expenditure under the separate heads of metalling, kcrbnig, channelling, etc. : SUMMARY. £ Metalling ... ... ••• 6147 Kerbing ... ... ••• Hbb Channelling ... ... 255 Kerbing and Channelling ... 1805 Kerbing, Channelling amt Metalling ... ... ••• Footpaths ... ... ... 1444 Forming, Grading and Provision for Gravelling ... ... 3540 Gravelling ... ... 1831 Total ... ... £10,975 The motion to include £OOOO in the loan proposals for Victoria Bridge still stands. Councillor King’s motion (a full report of which appears elsewhere) having been lost. It seems probable, however, that the ratepayers will have a chance of contemplating this expenditure as a separate issue on. the ballot papers. Nothing definite on this point was decided last night.
