About 1000 voted. “LET THEM, HAVE WAR!” Auckland, October 15. Speaking iat a mooting :pf itha iMt. Alberjb Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr said thit the council should take 1 tip a Very'firm 'attitude in regard! ±6l -the Federation of ' Labour’s tactics;' The Federation : had thrown down the gauntlet; the local bodies should not hesitate ’to accept the challenge. It was time to say. “We will fight you-to'the bitter end.” The pinpricking tactics of the Federation should be stopped once and for all. Ho knew that most of the local bodies were of the same opinion. No one objected to sane unionism, but with the Federation men every little pottering thing was made the subject of a strike talk. On the occasion of the last general labourers’ strike, when Messrs Parry and Semple were so keen on an agreement, the employers had questioned the value of an agreement with such people. The utter worthlessness of such an agreement had been proved by subsequent events. He was against having any truck with such people outside the Arbitration Court. The Federation was 'always crying “war”-—well, his advice was to let thorn have war, and not to cease fighting until the dictatorial tactics of the Federation were no longer possible. The Mayor’s action in the matter was endorsed by the Council.
